Lori Marino Lori Marino is the Founder and Executive Director of The Kimmela Center for Animal Advocacy. She was formerly a Senior Lecturer at Emory University for 19 years and Faculty Affiliate at the Emory Center for Ethics. Along with Diana Reiss, she helped publish the first study showing mirror self-recognition in bottlenose dolphins in 2001. 〔(Mirror self-recognition in the bottlenose dolphin: A case of cognitive convergence )〕 She later became involved with work in dolphin neuroanatomy, showing that the brains of dolphins became as complex as those of great apes through a different neuroanatomical route. She was close friends with Diana Reiss, but later became estranged from Reiss due to her objections to studies involving captive dolphins of any kind. 〔(It's Complicated: The Lives of Dolphins & Scientists )〕 〔(Are Dolphins Too Smart for Captivity? )〕 She has also been interviewed in the documentary Blackfish. ==References==
